The Problem |
|
"Training for the sake of training has many consequences but few
planned results." |
Employee training is
a business decision. Too often, employees attend training sessions that provide them with
information that is "interesting" and "nice to know," but will not
help them improve their job performance. The key to effective training resides with
managers, because they are in a position to reward or ignore newly learned skills back
on the job. Managers must assume responsibility for providing trainers with the
information necessary to design and deliver training that will have a positive business
impact. |
| Workshop Series Content |
| We
have combined updated train-the-trainer skills in Instructional System Design (ISD) with
new HRD models for training transfer and evaluation. In a two day plus two day workshop
series, HRD decision makers learn to use a systematic process for conducting a front end
analysis of a training need in the context of the priorities of the business, and design a
training program to match the business need. The
Datatrain® Program consists of eight learning modules:
- Systematic Model of the Training Development Process
- Training Needs Analysis
- Return on Investment Assessment
- Training Macro Plan Development
- Instructional Design Micro Plan Selection
- Training Process-Consulting
- Transfer of Training Strategy and Marketing
- Evaluation of Training Results
|
| Workshop Benefits |
- Links training to business needs.
- Creates a uniform language for communicating about training
needs in an organization.
- Strengthens the impact of small training departments.
- Develops a network of internal training consultants.
- Instructs managers and supervisors on how to transfer and
support training.
- Identifies wasteful and counterproductive training efforts.
The HRD staff is developed into a learning team within the
organization. This new learning team practices using this proven model for systems
thinking about training and development problems. |
| The Method |
"Think, Discuss, Practice,
Apply" |
Workshop
Format Participants learn how to use the
full 14 step process to analyze current in-house training efforts. Each step of the Needs
Analysis Process is practiced using case studies and real workplace training problems.
Workshop I focuses on Business Training Needs Analysis. Workshop II focuses on Training
Transfer and Evaluation.
Training Transfer
The interim worksite project is completed between the two
workshops. It includes the use of trainer-manager worksheets for needs analysis, macro
plan and return on investment. The project is critical for the application of skills to a
real business need. A training transfer action plan is created for follow up with managers
after Workshop II.
Who Should Attend?
Human Resources decision makers: training directors,
training managers, training staff, instructors, line managers and supervisors, OD
practitioners, course developers and evaluators. Total Quality Facilitators use Datatrain
